Chat Rooms: Audio Discussion Forums

June 23, 2008 – 11:00 am

Forums have grown from the beginnings as cumbersome bulletin boards to full-featured communication interfaces. The options are much more diverse than they were even a few years ago, including the ability to encode HTML into your text so you can add graphics, web links, and even downloadable content. Discussion forums have moved even further into the future by now adding audio and video capabilities as well.

Being Part of the Community in an Audio Discussion Forum
Having a group of people that share your interests is great, and now you can use the Internet to communicate with those who dont live in your area. If you are a history enthusiast and want to discuss events from the past, you can join an audio discussion forum and talk with others about your views and knowledge. You can also have audio communities that discuss books they read. New groups spring up all the time.

Joining an audio community is usually as simple as registering to join the forum. The moderator approves your screenname and gives you your password, and you are free to log in at any time. Other audio communities, however, are considered part of the whole server so you can pop into any discussion at any time without registering separately.

New instant messenger services are beginning to incorporate audio and video into their list of available features. Established services often provide audio and video only for paying members, but independent providers are quite often free. They do not rely on users for income but advertisers who buy advertising space within the interface. These ads can often be eliminated by paying for premium service, but it is not required.
